Dr. Shachi Patel is a highly-motivated and astute double board certified interventional pain management physician who specializes in treating a variety of chronic pain conditions such as degenerative conditions of the spine, multiple arthritic conditions, cancer pain, and other chronic pain disorders.
Dr. Patel did her residency in Anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. To further her education, she pursued subspecialty training in Interventional Pain Management at Weill Cornell Medical Center and Hospital for Special Surgery, where she further trained in acute and chronic pain management. During a subset of her training at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she became adept in cancer pain management techniques.
Dr. Patel specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of joint and spine disorders. She believes in a multi-modal approach to treating pain which includes medical management, non-surgical interventional treatment, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. She performs epidurals, facet joint injections, medial branch blocks and radiofrequency ablations in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions of the spine, joint pain management for shoulders, hips, knees, and sacroiliac joints, as well as soft tissue injections. She trained in advanced spine therapies including spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal drug delivery systems, neurolytic blocks, and vertebral augmentation therapies such as vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty.
Dr. Patel has a strong interest in holistic and regenerative medicine, which involves applying the body’s own healing cells to damaged soft tissue to promote self healing. Dr. Patel’s treatments stimulate growth factors which result in natural healing of the affected area by forming new connective tissue like ligaments, collagen and tendons.
